All the Tribes Are Guilty

Hear this word which the Lord has spoken against you, sons of Israel, against the entire [a](A)family which [b]He brought up from the land of Egypt:

(B)You only have I [c]known among all the families of the earth;
Therefore I will [d](C)punish you for all your wrongdoing.”
Do two people walk together unless they have agreed to meet?
Does a (D)lion roar in the forest when he has no prey?
Does a young lion [e]growl from his den unless he has captured something?
Does a bird fall into a trap on the ground when there is no [f]device in it?
Does a trap spring up from the earth when it captures nothing at all?
If a (E)trumpet is blown in a city, will the people not tremble?
If a (F)disaster occurs in a city, has the Lord not brought it about?
[g]Certainly the Lord [h]God does nothing
Unless He (G)reveals His secret plan
To His servants the prophets.
A (H)lion has roared! Who will not fear?
The (I)Lord God has spoken! (J)Who can do anything but prophesy?

Proclaim on the citadels in (K)Ashdod and on the citadels in the land of Egypt and say, “Assemble yourselves on the (L)mountains of Samaria and see the great panic within her and the (M)oppressions in her midst. 10 But they (N)do not know how to do what is right,” declares the Lord, “these who (O)store up [i]violence and devastation in their citadels.”

11 Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:

“An (P)enemy, one surrounding the land,
Will take down your fortifications from you,
And your (Q)citadels will be looted.”

12 This is what the Lord says:

“Just as the shepherd [j](R)snatches from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear,
So will the sons of Israel living in Samaria be [k]snatched away—
With the (S)corner of a bed and the [l](T)cover of a couch!
13 Hear and (U)testify against the house of Jacob,”
Declares the Lord God, the God of armies.
14 “For on the day that I punish Israel’s offenses,
I will also punish the altars of (V)Bethel;
The horns of the altar will be cut off,
And will fall to the ground.
15 I will also strike the (W)winter house together with the (X)summer house;
The houses of [m](Y)ivory will also perish,
And the (Z)great houses will come to an end,”
Declares the Lord.

11 (A)Come, you children, listen to me;
(B)I will teach you (C)the fear of the Lord.
12 (D)Who is the person who desires life
And loves length of days, that he may (E)see good?
13 Keep (F)your tongue from evil
And your lips from speaking (G)deceit.
14 (H)Turn from evil and do good;
Seek peace and (I)pursue it.

15 The (J)eyes of the Lord are toward the righteous,
And His ears are toward their cry for help.
16 The (K)face of the Lord is against evildoers,
To (L)eliminate the memory of them from the earth.
17 The righteous (M)cry out, and the Lord hears
And rescues them from all their troubles.
18 The Lord (N)is near to the (O)brokenhearted
And saves those who are [a](P)crushed in spirit.

19 (Q)The (R)afflictions of the righteous are many,
But the Lord (S)rescues him from them all.
20 He protects all his bones,
(T)Not one of them is broken.
21 (U)Evil will bring death to the wicked,
And those who hate the righteous will suffer for their guilt.
22 The Lord (V)redeems the souls of His servants,
And none of those who (W)take refuge in Him will suffer for their guilt.

Peter Says Jesus is The Christ

18 (A)And it happened that while He was (B)praying alone, the disciples were with Him, and He questioned them, saying, “Who do the [a]people say that I am?” 19 They answered and said, “John the Baptist, and others say Elijah; but others, that one of the prophets of old has risen.” 20 And He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Peter answered and said, “(C)The [b]Christ of God.” 21 But He [c](D)warned them and instructed them not to tell this to anyone, 22 (E)saying, (F)The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and be raised on the third day.”

23 And He was saying to them all, (G)If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For (H)whoever wants to save his [d]life will lose it, but whoever loses his [e]life for My sake, this is the one who will save it. 25 For what good does it do a person if he gains the whole world, but (I)loses or forfeits himself? 26 (J)For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He comes in His glory and the glory of the Father and the holy angels. 27 But I say to you truthfully, (K)there are some of those standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
